Barselgrad Residency
Fykse, Norway
2008

Plot Shift invited local and international artists to create a design proposal and manual for a portable garden plot that could be used within the artists’ collective living and working environment at Fykse School then dispersed into the village after the residency period. The prerequisite of the design was that it should focus on one specific area within a garden (e.g. a compost heap or a vegetable patch). The design should be functional and portable. The garden plot itself should be made from low-cost, recycled or re-appropriated, and easily accessible materials. The manual should stipulate the necessary information in order to make the design. At the end of the Barselgrad residency in August 2008 each of the plots that made up the garden were moved and gifted to people within the Fykse village community for further use.
